Old Bar Beach Festival Wins Silver
NSW Tourism regional Award.
The Old Bar Beach Festival has again been recognised as one of the best events and festivals in New South Wales picking up the Silver Award having won the Mid North Coast Tourism Award in 2009 and the North Coast Tourism Award earlier this year as well as the Tourism Award in the recent Manning Valley Business Awards.
Tim & Cozette Leonard - Tim Bailey
Festival President, Cozette Leonard is still coming to terms with the award and what it means to the hundreds of volunteers and the community of Old Bar. "It is beyond our dreams as this category of events and awards was of the most hotly contended category of all the 30 categories being considered with 10 finalists. It was an honour just to be a fellow finalist with events such as the Parks Elvis Festival, the Deniliquin Ute Muster, the Rosehill Spring Racing Festival in Sydney and the Lismore Lantern Festival. We are very very happy with the Silver and congratulate the Sabre Launch Festival in the Riverina in its win. For us it is very rewarding recognition for what is truly a community event. The Festival has over 200 volunteers working on making it the best and we also receive incredible support from the not only local businesses in Old Bar and the Manning Valley but from every community group and service Club in Old Bar."
The Awards were based on the 2009 Festival. Although the 2010 Old Bar Beach Festival was hampered by bad weather it was still another major success , breaking the Australian record for the most kombis assembled in one place at 218.
"We a now look forward to an even greater event in 2011 building on this success and award which will hopefully help us in finding a major sponsor and more support for our volunteers, indeed encouraging others to become involved in its wonderful community event that has helped put Old Bar on the map."
